Pembroke Welsh Corgi

Personality

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is basically a loaf of bread with ears and ambition. Originally bred to herd cattle, they now specialize in herding humans—especially toward the treat jar. Don't be fooled by their squatty frame and stubby legs: these little bosses have the heart of a lion and the stubbornness of a toddler in a cape.

Corgis are the life of any room, inserting themselves into conversations, photos, and ideally, your lap. They’re whip-smart and trainable but may act like they’re doing you a favor. Expect the occasional sass side-eye if you ask them to sit without a bribe.

Despite their royal reputation (thanks, Queen Elizabeth), they’re happiest chasing toys, barking at invisible threats, and practicing their herding moves on houseplants or children. They shed glitter-like amounts of fur and aren’t afraid to announce guests or squirrels with theatrical barks.

These dogs are comedians in a compact frame—and they know it.

Corgis are clever, cheerful, and bursting with energy. Their compact frame packs a big personality, and they thrive on affection, mental stimulation, and bossing around larger dogs. Apartment-friendly and always ready to herd your slippers.

A photograph with a humorous touch features a Pembroke Welsh Corgi sitting on a living room ottoman, wearing felt reindeer antlers and surrounded by a soccer ball, rubber duck, chew bone, and rope toy, exuding playful chaos and holiday cheer.
