Maltese

Personality

The Maltese is the dog version of a luxury pillow with opinions. Small enough to fit in your tote bag but bold enough to try and boss around your German Shepherd, this pint-sized pooch has been adored by royalty and spoiled by humans for centuries—and they know it. They strut through life with silky white hair flowing in the wind and a confidence level rivaling pop stars.

Don't let their dainty appearance fool you—they have a bark that says, “I will sound the alarm if the UPS man gets too close.” They’re charming, clingy, and will absolutely throw a dramatic stink-eye if you dare leave them alone for more than 15 minutes.

Training them is doable if you use praise, treats, and perhaps a hand-carved throne. Just beware: they may nap in sunbeams all afternoon, but they’ll spring to life the second there’s a crinkly bag or guest to impress. If you want a dog that’s equal parts diva, shadow, and lap-warmer, the Maltese is your star.

The Maltese is affectionate, alert, and unapologetically pampered. They thrive in cozy spaces, bond deeply with their humans, and love attention as much as they love naps on throw pillows. Despite their delicate looks, they’re surprisingly brave, vocal, and full of personality. Daily grooming is a must, but their loyal companionship is well worth the fluff maintenance.

A glamorous Maltese dog with fluffy white fur sits on a velvet armchair, wearing a sparkly bow, layered pearl necklaces, and holding a magician’s wand, exuding diva energy in a vintage-lit parlor.
